What do you think would be the most essential attribute for a radio announcer? A good voice? Not really. I’ve heard a lot of people with average voices who still do a great job.
I think the most essential attribute would not be a good voice, but a voice of any description. On that point, I may not last the morning on-air today.
I’m trying to think of a new name to use on the radio today. I figure that no one is going to recognize my voice in the shape it’s in at the moment so I could pretend to be someone completely different. Imagine what I could get away with.
The way things are going, I may lose my voice completely within the next couple of hours. That’s not good when I’ve just started a three hour shift which includes a talkback segment.
Maybe I can set up a code. I’ll tap twice on the microphone once for hello, twice for good morning. I’m not sure how to explain you what I’ve just played but I can work on it.
The difficult part is that I’m feeling reasonably well, I just can’t talk properly. So if you know of a sure fire way of restoring vocal chords, let me know, quickly.
For those in the Perth area, or those who want to listen on-line throught the 98.5 Sonshine FM website, you can have lots of fun listening to the funny man trying to talk on the radio.

This is my sister’s cure for anything:
(warning it has a strong smell and isn’t the most pleasant going down, but it works!)
4 oz (or T) hot water
1/2 T honey
1 T apple cider vinegar
(Hope you can do any metric conversions that are necessary!)
Sip slowly and enjoy! You will feel better soon.
My sister actually drinks this every day, and she is very healthy. She heard of a missionary who gave this remedy to a short-term missionary when he was having chest pains. There was no hospital nearby, and he was relieved of these symptoms! (However, I’m not recommending that anyone substitute this for a doctor’s visit if you have chest pains and access to a doctor or hospital!)
here’s a remedy that has gone down in my families “legendary tales”
my dad told me that if I juiced a clove of garlic with some carrot juice, it would help my man get over a flu really fast
I was young, and had never used fresh garlic – I used to buy it in bottles
anyhow, I went and bought a garlic, juiced it with the carrot juice and tried to get my man to drink it
the smell was so strong we thought it might ignite
he managed to force some of it down but refused to drink the lot
later on I realised a clove is just one small segment of a garlic, not the whole bulb!?!
Rodney, you could always start a first – a radio station for the deaf – tune in for the sound of silence 🙂
Hope you get better really soon. I’m a big fan of chicken noodle soup and lots of rest. Everytime I go to the doctor, though, they prescribe those two things, when all I really want is a bottle of antibiotics. Go figure.
I just wish I had tuned in this morning to listen to what I am sure would have been an interesting if not very original radio show! 🙂
I hope you’ve found your voice by now… and I hope you had some fun broadcasting and ..um…tapping the microphone 😉
If anyone here is familiar with Lano & Woodley, then you’d know that the cure for anything (including amputated limbs) is excluding dairy from your diet…
Seriously, as a vocalist, I try and take especially good care of my throat during illness. Admittedly, I go into “tea withdrawls”, but I find that colds – espeically head/chest colds, don’t hang around as long if you don’t indulge in dairy products…
Hot lemon and honey works well…I still can’t stomach a full mug though.
Codral Cold & Flu is sent from heaven 🙂
Suzi, I’ve heard that apple cider vinegar can help with all kinds of ailments. I’ll have to try some and see what it does for me.
Kel, I quite enjoy garlic, but I don’t think I’d like it in that kind of concentration either. 🙂 Strange thing is that Pauline can’t stand garlic in anything – even in me. I still have some every now and then.
Paula, our family is very familiar with Lano and Woodley. When I mentioned your comment, my kids were immediately able to tell me the name of the episode where they mentioned the dairy free diet.
Margaret, Bruce and Ameleia, thanks for your kind wishes too. (Yes Bruce, it was an unusual shift.)
