Fragments of conversation

During my lunch break I popped across to Myer for a wander around.

I was in the electrical department and had just been looking at the digital television set top boxes. I don’t know that I’m that all that interested in buying one but I was having a look.

Just as I was walking away a couple of young ladies walked past. I say young, but seeing as I’m about to turn a year older that means that they would have been in their mid to late 20s. One of them pointed to the shelves of set top boxes and announced to her friend, “Wow, everyone’s getting them these days.” Her friend, not so clued up about today’s electronic wizardry asked, “What are they?”

This is where it got interesting. The first woman said, “They’re portable DVD players. People take them everywhere with them. We even had a guy who used to bring his into work all the time.” Woman number two displayed the required amount of incredulity before woman one chimed in again, “He got the sack for it.” “Really?” said her friend. “Well actually, it’s because they found cannabis in his system”.
