Oh Canada!

I had a wonderful surprise when I arrived at work this morning. There was an email in my inbox from a friend in Canada.

I met Darrell in 1992 when I cycled in Canada’s Rocky Mountains with him. He’s pastoring an Alliance church just outside of Calgary. Last week he took a day off to cycle over the Highwood Pass. He tells me that in the space of ten miles the road climbs over 2,000 feet. It’s the highest paved road in Canada. Then on the other side he went down about 3,000 feet in 30 miles. I’m now officially jealous.

In a few short lines he told me about his very busy life. I shot back a reply and we’ll have to stay in touch more often. Email is a wonderful way to stay in touch with people but somehow it still doesn’t beat sitting down and chatting face to face.

I’ve told him that if I ever find some buried treasure in our back yard I’ll pack the family onto the first plane to Canada so we can catch up for a while.
