Surprise

My family bought me a birthday present yesterday. I know that they bought something but I don’t know what it is. My birthday isn’t until late next week and I don’t want the surprise spoiled so I won’t go hunting under beds and in cupboards.

I know that they bought me something yesterday because when I got home James said to me, “We bought you a birthday present today.” Fairly conclusive evidence I would think. I said, “You’re not going to tell me what it is are you?” He promised he wouldn’t.

What are you like with gifts? Do you have to know what someone’s bought for you or do you prefer the surprise? I don’t even want to see the shape of a parcel before the day in case I guess what’s inside. Do you feel and shake gifts under your Christmas tree? Do you turn the house upside down when no one’s looking to find out what someone has bought for you?

I love the whole surprise thing. I love getting things that I would have never even considered buying. I don’t write a list of stuff that I want. I will admit that I tend to throw out a few hints but I’m always happy with whatever ends up in my lap on the day.

  • Is James your second child, or aged 8-10? We have a friend (and #2 son) who does just the same thing. Impossible for them to keep a secret!

Hope you don’t find out what you’re getting before the due time.

    Have a great birthday!

  • Hello Pippa. Thanks for dropping in.

James is our second child. He’s 6. Emily is 9.

James is pretty good at keeping secrets if he has to. I’m sure he won’t spill the beans.

  • I love surprises too! that’s why I’ve put on a few surprise parties – I’ve organised a few so far which I love doing (a baby shower, both my parents 50th parties and then the one last weekend for my hubby).
Don’t like to know what I’m getting before the day either.

  • hey! found your blog from “uncle matt” (harmless). definitely agree with the surprise thing, although i could never guess anyway what i get 🙂
