This article from Technorati tells us that the blogosphere is growing extremely rapidly. Among other findings they say:
The blogosphere continues to double about every 5.5 months
A new blog is created about every second, there are over 80,000 created daily
About 55% of all blogs are active, and that has remained a consistent statistic for at least a year
About 13% of all blogs are updated at least weekly
Part of the article says, “As of the end of July 2005, Technorati was tracking over 14.2 Million weblogs, and over 1.3 billion links. Interestingly, this is just about double the number of blogs that we were tracking 5 months ago. In March 2005 we were tracking 7.8 million blogs, which means the blogosphere has just about doubled again in the past 5 months, and that the blogosphere continues to double about every 5.5 months.”
So those of us already blogging are part of a growing trend. If you haven’t yet created your own blog yet, maybe it’s time to get yourself published.
I suppose the other side of that arguement is the statistic that just 55% of blogs are considered active. That means that almost half the blogs that are created don’t continue. Some of those would be created by people who change blogging tools and create a new blog elsewhere but my guess is that many people just stop blogging altogether. I suppose that means that blogging isn’t for everyone.

Quantity sadly does not translate into quality. About 6 months ago I still have the same number of ‘good’ blogs I go to on a daily basis. This hasn’t doubled. I’m sure there’s a reason for that.
And I suppose I only feel half as special as I did 6 months ago owning a blog. 😉
I suppose those numbers shouldn’t surprise me, but they do. I know one thing, I am having a good time with mine, and Rodney, its very rewarding to come here and read yours!
I suppose this medium we call the net, will have, like any other medium, its good and its bad. (Referring to the other comment). Each time my cable company adds more tv channels, I only can say, there is less and less quality to watch. Not that I watch much anyway.
Anyway, nice article!

I think the number of inactive blogs is quite interesting, and only 13% being updated at least weekly, did I read that right? I guess for some people it’s just time constraints, or perhaps laziness. I know that I don’t always feel like updating either.
