We had a great family day on Saturday, starting with a trip to the movies.
It was our 98.5 Sonshine FM preview of Shark Boy and Lava Girl in 3D. We sat there wearing our 3D glasses and watched all kinds of things hurtling towards us.
The idea for the movie was actually a product of a 7 year old boy’s imagination. Having a successful movie producer as a dad meant that Racer Max Rodriguez got to see his ideas on the big screen. It’s a great 90 minutes of escapism and a good reminder to continue dreaming even when the world wants to crush your dreams.
One self-confessed, middle-aged man told me after the film that he got a little teary during the screening as he thought of his teenage dreams that had been blunted by reality.
A lot of people were thanking us for putting on the screening as they left the cinema so it was obviously well received.
There are a lot of kids movies these days that appeal equally to kids and adults. I don’t really think that this is one of them. It hits the kids target very well but I know that some adults will find it less than riveting entertainment. Having said that I still think that it’s worth taking the kids to see the movie. They’ll love it.
