Fire!

Did you hear that a fire in England has destroyed all the sets, props, and models from previous Wallace and Gromit films? The fire destroyed the Aardman Animations warehouse which housed all the props and sets from Morph through to Creature Comforts and the Wallace and Gromit films. They’re saying that their whole history has been wiped out. The talking polar bears, terrapins and jaguar from Creature Comforts have gone and Frank the Tortoise, who won fame as the face of a television advertising campaign is missing.

Aardman’s latest production, Wallace and Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit, was the top box office draw in the United States this weekend, taking in the equivalent of over 21 million Australian dollars in its North American debut.

It must be devastating to lose all those memories, especially with the amount of time the Aardman team would have spent with all the models, props and sets during the painstaking animation process.

It would be heart breaking to lose everything in a fire. I know it’s a bit of a clichéd question but, apart from family and pets, what would you grab as you fled a fire at your home? I think for me it would possibly be our computer. It’s full of photos and other bits and pieces that would be hard to replace.

  • Rodney,

This post really makes me think. I actually lost everything in a fire during the summer after my freshman year in college. I lost a few thing of great material value such as original copies of the Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbit. However, It was not the money I cared about. I lost many more books than the four above and many of them had wonderful memories attached to them. I can replace most of those books, but I cannot replace the memoires they bring out. Those are the important things.
