The pen

I had the absolute delight of showing a group of people around the studios of 98.5 Sonshine FM today.

I don’t normally work on weekends but there are occasions that I’m required to do an air shift. The 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. shift was mine today.

In between talk breaks I gave 24 people a peek behind the scenes of my workplace. The group came from Pinjarra and they had just delivered over 100 shoeboxes filled with toys and supplies for 98.5 Sonshine FM’s Operation Christmas Child. They loaded the boxes into their designated area and then wandered upstairs for a look around.

All went well, with me dashing off every 15 minutes or so to talk on-air, before returning to explain the next area of the radio station.

We finally came to the nerve centre of the station. Studio One or to be more correct the Harris – Morgan Studio. Everyone filed in and I explained a few bits and pieces about the operation of the on-air side of things. I then had to talk on-air so everyone was as quiet as possible.

I finished my talk break and then finished explaining the intricacies of the broadcast studio. It was time for some deep, searching questions. I’ve worked in radio for over 17 years so I was ready for anything they could throw at me. “Anyone? Anyone?” A hand shot up behind me. “Yes?” I said to the young man. “There’s a pen on the ground.” Excellent.
