I need sleep

I’ve decided to change my sleeping habits. From now on I’m going to stay up all night and only go to bed just before 4:00 a.m. I figure that all I need to do is get a good sleep between ten past four and half past four and I’ll be ready for the day ahead.

I know that it’ll work because that’s my optimum sleep time. How do I know this? Because that’s the time period that I missed this morning and I feel as if I’ve had no sleep at all.

At ten past four this morning I woke to the sounds of the opening theme tune to the Wallace and Gromit films. That’s Pauline’s mobile phone ring tone so I jumped out of bed to track it down. When a phone rings at that time you always assume that something’s gone wrong somewhere. I answered, then the guy on the other end said, “I think I’ve got the wrong number.” In my gravely morning voice I said, “I think you have.” I’m sure he was still talking as I pushed the ‘End Call’ button.

I went straight back to bed but I couldn’t get back to sleep for a while. I really could have done without the interruption.

  • I know exactly what you mean Rodney. I have had sleeping problems for the last 18 months or so where I cannot get into a deep sleep cycle. I cannot remember the last time I actually slept the whole night and woke up feeling refreshed. (Various drugs and exercise routines tried but no luck yet.) It sounds like your deep sleep cycle was disturbed. This is where the majority of your “rest and recovery” occurs and explains why you feel as though you haven’t slept. Tonight is another night and I promise I wont ring tonight . . . . ooops (wasn’t me honest).

  • LOL to Luke’s comment!

I hate it when the phone rings at an odd hour and scares me like that!

Hope he doesn’t misdial you again.

  • I often wake up in the middle of the night and will have a mug of warm milk and read. Sometimes I actually fall back to sleep.
I don’t recommend staying up ’til 4 am though:)

  • As a shocking sleeper for 20 years, I can guarantee that the proposed solution has more downside than up ๐Ÿ™‚

I usually wake up at about 4:30am these days – it works pretty well as long as I hit the sack at about 10pm. As long as you’re not renovating or ringing people, it’s a good time of the day to get things done ๐Ÿ™‚
