As the weather warms up I’m glad that I’ve got a good pair of sunglasses. It’s not so much an increase in sunlight; it’s more the fact that there are a lot of blindingly white legs coming out of hiding.
We’re moving into shorts and t-shirt weather in Perth and a lot of legs that haven’t seen sunlight for several months are now on display. While my legs may not be pretty, they at least have a bit of colour resulting from my daily cycling habit.
The greater sunlight presents me with a different problem though. Within the next few weeks I’ll develop more and more of my summer cycling tan. I do protect my skin from the sun but I still tan very easily. That means that my face, arms and legs get pretty brown, while underneath my shirt and the top of my legs stay very white. Wearing tight fitting cycling gear means that there is a very sharp line between the brown and white skin. I just about glow in the dark when I take my shirt off.
Have you dared to venture out in shorts yet?

I love wearing shorts so have started to wear them again. Luckily, i get quite tanned in Summer and it usually lasts quite well through winter, meaning my legs aren’t TOO white and then i get a summer tan quite quickly.
Although I don’t ride I too manage to get an ‘interesting’ shaded body in summer but I’m kinda trying to limit that this year. Hard but, need to protect my body from the sun whilst still trying to expose it enough to get a bit of a tan.
there is always fake tan…:D
i thought Victorians were the only ones to suffer flourescent tans!
it has been shorts weather here with 2 days over 30 degrees this week already.
I don’t tan well at all…however, just having returned from 2 weeks in Fiji, I’m nice and brown…and because of daylights savings, I race home from work just so I can spend an hour on the sun bed in the backyard with my book of choice 🙂
Here in Queensland we’ve never stopped venturing out in shorts. The only difference is it’s now less comfortable than it was 3 or 4 months ago.
