The Concert

There are many people in this world who are fully competent, functioning human beings …. until you put them in front of an audience. At that point they freeze up completely. On the other hand there are those who live for the spotlight and absolutely shine in front of a crowd. Emily is the latter.

When Emily gets on stage something wonderful happens. She’s not vain or a show off, she’s simply a performer.

Last night was her end of year piano concert. The concert drew together many of the students from her school who are learning piano to perform a couple of pieces each in front of parents. The concert was held at Guildford Grammar School and each of the students had the privilige of playing the grand piano on stage to a very appreciative audience.

Emily has certainly been practising her pieces but even a couple of hours before the show she was occasionally stumbling. Once she was on the stage it all flowed perfectly. She was brilliant. There was no hesitation, only confidence and star quality. (Of course I’m biased but I’m allowed to be; I’m her dad.)

A real highlight of the night came with the final student who performed. He is a 10 year old boy who has been learning to read music this year. He used to be able to play quite complicated pieces but didn’t know how to read music. He played a piece that he had written himself and it was brilliant. This young man is set for stardom.

  • I bet you were very proud watching Emily, I know that feeling of seeing your child perform on stage. Everything else in the room loses focus and you see just that one child. Unfortunatley my son is the nervous type so watching him was sometimes painful – but he did a good job at being the Angel Gabriel when he was about 5 πŸ™‚

  • Sounds like a wonderful, starstudded concert πŸ™‚ Do you record them? My daughter was involved in gymnastics in middle school. She is now 19 and it is great fun to pull out the tapes πŸ˜‰
