Another visit to Narnia

After seeing the movie for the second time at our 98.5 Sonshine FM preview last night, I still can’t get over The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe.

Just between you and me, I can be a bit of an emotional movie goer. I managed to stop myself from blubbering during the movie. I just had to wipe away a tear or two. I was amazed at how emotionally involved I got second time around. I wanted to cheer, applaud and cry but I restrained myself. The story itself is engaging enough but the rich spiritual imagery connected me to the characters in an even more powerful way.

It was wonderful being able to invite 400 people to what is sure to be the big hit movie these holidays. If you haven’t seen the movie yet, make sure that you get to the cinemas. It opens in Australia on Boxing Day.

If you have seen it, I’d love to hear what you thought of the movie.

I don’t remember feeling that good after a movie for a very long time.

  • I saw it last night too – and it was incredible! Just like I imagined it to be. The stone table scene was fantastic, although I must admit that for me, it was more poignant in the book. I couldn’t stop smiling through the movie – that happens to me even when I’m reading the books 🙂
I’m telling everyone to go and see it – and I’ll go with them!

(And Lucy was PERFECT wasn’t she?)

Glad to hear you?re an emotional movie goer. So don’t let it matter if you want to blubber. I cry, I cheer, I laugh out loud. Lately more so than ever, I cry at the imagery I see or the truth that I read. Your emotions are so much part of your real self and as men we need to be real for all those who we care for. Rodney, you and your blog and your insights are dear to me, they make an impression on my day and today you have spurred me to go and see this movie that I know so little about.
Merry Christmas to you and Pauline, Emily and James.

  • man! you’ve seen it twice and it hasn’t even come out yet…I look forward to seeing it one day (although probably when it comes out on $2 weekly video – poor uni student and all). 🙂 kezza

  • I can’t wait to see it, Rodney! I’ve read some great reviews from fellow-Christians. I’m going on a blogging break shortly, so I’ll take this opportunity to wish you and yours a very merry and blessed “down-under” Christmas! 🙂

  • I heartily agree, Rodney. And the girl who played Lucy reminded me of the one who did in the British production several years back.

  • I was completely amazed how natural all the special effect characters looked. I was wondering how they would, for example, make a talking wolf, but as it turned out, they used a real wolf! Not sure how they did that. I imagine the Centuar character (half horse, half man) was computer created (and Mr. Tumnus, as well).

My disapointment, if I could put it into words, is the pace of the movie. I would have slowed it down, let the characters develop a little bit. Also, the introduction of Aslan into the story, about halfway through, seemed a little bit late, as of course he is the central character of the story. But overall, they did follow the book fairly well, and I will plan on going again. Emotionally I did not find it to be, but then I did not find Passion emotionally touching, either.
