Journey to Bethlehem … and Beyond

Last week we travelled the Road to Bethlehem, last night we took a Journey to Bethlehem and Beyond. Last week it was the excellent Christmas production at Livingston Adventist Church, last night we were at Lakeside Recreation Centre for another innovative presentation of the Christmas story put together by Lakeside Baptist Church.

There was ‘snow’ falling as we travelled to various continents to see how the birth of a baby 2000 years ago has affected nations around the globe. It was a wonderful hands on experience. The kids got to make a few bits and pieces along the way as well as collecting their passports for the trip.

Their website says about Journey to Bethlehem and Beyond, “An Interactive Christmas Global Village: Embark on an epic voyage for the end of 2005. From Bethlehem at the birth of Christ to a trip around the modern world, you will have the opportunity to be a part of Christmas in its many and varied cultural expressions. There will be activities for all ages including instrument making, star gazing, origami, Christmas carols and camel rides plus much, much more.”

The story of Christmas may be thousands of years old but its impact continues. And I’m so glad that there are creative people who are prepared to put a huge amount of time and effort into expressing not only the basic story but the eternal importance of that moment in history.
