Every now and then another story is published telling us that dark chocolate is good for us. The latest comes from News.com.au.
We’re told that chocolate contains high quantities of antioxidants called flavonoids, which prevent arteries hardening. That means that dark chocolate is good for our hearts and we should be eating a few squares of the stuff each day. Excellent.
Now the bad news. It seems that the same results can’t be achieved with milk chocolate. They think that the milk may interfere with the flavonoids. Darn.
We’re also being told at regular intervals how good a glass of red wine is each day to keep the heart ticking over.
I’m prepared to believe all the research but what I really want is research showing how good milk chocolate and even white chocolate is for us. I want to see a study that tells me that I should eat custard more regularly. Why isn’t anyone running research to show the health benefits of a big plate of steak, eggs and chips?
Where are the researchers looking into the life giving properties of KFC? Surely all that oil has to be doing some good.
I tend to believe that if we look hard enough we can find something good about any kind of food. We just need to be prepared to ignore the bad effects.

Hi Rodney, I hear what you’re saying (I think), and I’ve got a suggestion to improve on the last line of your post, for food lovers everywhere!
Old version:
“I tend to believe that if we look hard enough we can find something good about any kind of food. We just need to be prepared to ignore the bad effects.”
New version:
“I tend to believe that if we look hard enough we must find something good about any kind of food.”
Everything is good for you 8)
Merry Christmas!

Random comment, but: you’re cute. 🙂
chocolate has phenolics, which might help prevent heart disease.
it also has endorpihns, a phenyethylamine, that makes us feel happy.
One of my friends states that eating chocolate is emotionally healthy. I tend to agree ; ). Sometimes its exactly what you need.
