More carols

Rodney and ArthurThe weather was bleak but we survived. Even though summer seems to be stalling for time, we were at two carols by candlelight events over the weekend.

The first was a local event for Beechboro Christian School on Saturday night. The forecast had been for rain and there were grey clouds hovering above. I had the privilege of being one of the hosts for the evening.

One of the performers that was very well received was a 9 year old girl who did a great version of ETW‘s rap, Can’t Spell Christmas Without Christ. I think she was the star of the show but I may be biased seeing as it was my daughter, Emily.

Moments after the event finished there was a brief shower.

Sunday night saw us at Carols in the Park, an annual event in Booragoon organised by Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. The event started from 7:00 p.m. but I was there quite a bit earlier. I teamed up with 98.5 Sonshine FM Breakfast Announcer, Arthur Muhl, to broadcast live from the park from 4:00 p.m.

The rain stayed away again but there was a very cool wind blowing and it was impossible to keep candles lit. We all rugged up and sat on the grass for the main programme which was also broadcast live.

We’ve got another event this Sunday night with Carols in the Valley. If you haven’t been somewhere to sing carols this year, make sure you drop in to this one at Sandalford Winery.
The organisors say, “For the first time Sandalford joins with Swan City Church to host Carols in the Valley. This event promises to be one of the best annual carols events in the city of Perth. Featuring the talents of Australian Idol’s Courtney Murphy, The Australian Opera Studio, Imagine That – popular children’s entertainers, jazz pianist Ben Nichols, live band and a 40 voice choir topped off with an awesome fireworks finale.”

A bunch of us from 98.5 Sonshine FM will be down there so if you’re looking for something to do this Sunday evening, come on down. (And the forecast is for some warmer weather.)

  • yea rodney…and i got to shake your hand too.

tho you probably didnt think g-lo from “Diaries of a History Maker” is the same person as gary who had the pleasure of shaking your hand that sunday afternoon.

  • Oh yes. I knew who you were. 🙂

I didn’t get much of a chance to chat before the event and I was hoping to catch up later. I looked around but couldn’t see you while we wer packing away our gear.

It was good to meet you, even if it was ever so briefly.

  • Jo & I weren’t able to make it on Sunday night, but we heard the whole thing on 98 5 Sonshine FM. Thanks soo much for the wonderful broadcast, we were both really blessed by it. Will definately be there next year. Again I found myself thinking, I should be there with the Sonshine team. Can you ask JD if he got my email. Thanks.

  • I can’t imagine having Christmas in the summer! On the one hand, it would be kind of nice not having to scrape ice and shovel snow to get places. On the other hand, it just wouldn’t seem like Christmas to me without some snow.
