Sale time

Over the next few days they’ll be everywhere; in our letterboxes, newspapers, radios, televisions; promises of anything you could ever want at extremely low prices.

The post Christmas sales have started.

There were streams of cars heading into the local shopping centre as I pedalled to work today and it looked pretty full on my return trip. Everyone wants a bargain.

It’s always good to get something you need at a good price but I think a lot of sales simply convince us that wanting something and needing it are the same thing just so that they can sell us more stuff.

I may pick up a bargain or two in the coming days but heading back into the shops at this time of year is a scary experience. It’s not just the crowds that bother me or even the people that treat sales like a military manoeuvre; they take no prisoners, only bargains.

The scariest thing is walking into a shop to find the item for which you payed full price as a Christmas gift a few days ago, is now at 75% off.
