Did Jesus really exist?

An interesting court case is set to get underway in Italy.

This story from News.com.au says that a 72 year old atheist, Luigi Cascioli, has filed a complaint against a 75 year old parish priest in September 2002. He has objected to the priest’s assertion that Jesus existed historically.

It’ll be interesting to see how the case proceeds. Whether you consider Jesus to be a spiritual figure, a political radical or simply a good man, there are hundreds, in fact thousands more reliable documents pointing to him having walked the earth than to show that people like Plato or Aristotle ever existed. No one ever tries to disprove them. (This link shows the evidence based on available historical manuscripts.)

I don’t think that there is really much debate about whether Jesus existed. The real question is who he really was. Most people will admit that a guy named Jesus attracted a big following around 2000 years ago but why did they follow him?

Why do millions around the world still follow him today? Why are more people becoming followers of Jesus today than at any other time in history?
