… I knew that I would.
With a combination of fighting off a stomach ulcer and having to work some Saturday mornings, I haven’t been out on a Saturday morning bike ride for quite a while.
Today was finally the day. I was up just before 6:00 and on my bike around twenty minutes later on my way to meet 6 other guys at 6:30 to start our ride.
I’d love to tell you about how I felt strong all morning and won the sprint but my mum taught me not to tell lies. As well as being hopelessly out of condition at the moment, I’d had a late night giving a youth group a tour of 98.5 Sonshine FM. For the last day or so I’ve had a very sore neck and there’s a spot in my lower back that decides to flare up every 5 or 6 months. It felt very sore this morning.
Never the less, I was able to stay with the other guys most of the time and had an absolute blast. It’s a great bunch of guys. There’s Phil and Ron who used to ride in a group that I was part of for many years. (Unfortunately the owner of the bike shop where we used to meet sold out and the group kind of disintegrated.) It was also good to ride with Bruce and Andrew who were part of the team that rode from Perth to Hobart with me in 2003. I’ve ridden with Terry once before and I met Eddy for the first time on today’s ride.
I was home by 9:00 a.m. after riding just over 50km and sitting around enjoying a coffee at a cafe in Guildford for half an hour or so. They make wonderful coffee and don’t charge the earth.
What a way to start the weekend. I can’t wait for next week’s ride.

Hey Rodney,
I just wanted to let you know that I’ve seen your blog a lot on Blog Explosions, and that I’ve voted for you many times in the Battle of the Blogs. I enjoy reading your posts and following the links in your blogroll list.
I’m in the process of doing a graphic redesign of my blog…I’d like something more personal than the blogger templates, and I really like your header graphic. Did you do that yourself, or did someone design it for you? I’m just looking for ideas.
Random question…since you live in Perth, are you or are you not a big ABBA fan? Inquiring minds want to know. 🙂
Have a good day, Mate!
Hello Matt
Thanks for dropping in at The Journey and for your kind words.
I’m interested in why being in Perth would qualify me as an ABBA fan. I’m guessing it’s because Australia had more ABBA fans than anywhere else in the world.
When I was a little bloke I had ABBA pictures all over my wall, I had an ABBA T-Shirt and was in the ABBA Fan Club, but apart from that I wasn’t a huge fan. 🙂
As for my header graphic and blog design, it’s all stuff that I’ve hacked myself. The header graphic is a photo I took on one of my cycle crossings of Australia. I cropped it and added the text in Photoshop Elements.
Hope that helps.
Cheers
Greetings to you, Rodney. Glad you’ve had a wonderful start to a wonderful weekend.

GREAT RIDE! I was fortunate to hook up with a guy in this little village of San Luis in Argentina. He guided us to a Nat Park one day and the next day he got a spare bike and we did a 42 km ride on mtbs. He got me a TREK – carbon fibre, WITH CLIPLESS pedals that my Shimano sandles fitted into!Awesome. Just the 2 of us though we did catch up with a mate of his temporarilly before the guy left us for dead. Sure was great to be out on bike.
Keep up the good work mate. Currently enjoying Buenos Aires before heading for Brazil.
I feel tired! It was great riding with you again Rodney. Waking up early and riding for about 70km took its toll on me though, I just felt worn out all day Sunday.
