Kicking on

James and I undertook a very important mission yesterday afternoon. We went off to a local football oval so that we could sign James up for Auskick, the Australian Rules Football programme for younger kids.

We found the oval, we found the people ready to sign him up. We filled out all the details and then I gave James the form and the fee to go and register. He was very pleased with himself.

The first day of Auskick isn’t for a couple of weeks but he’s already pretty excited. It’s his first time being involved in any kind of organised sport. No one in my family ever played any sport when we were kids so this is a totally new experience, not just for James but me too.

I don’t remember my dad ever playing any kind of sport with me when I was growing up. It was always the kind of thing that other dads did with their kids. Auskick encourages parents to get involved with the programme so while I might not be the best footballer in the world, I’m really looking forward to spending Saturday mornings kicking a footy around with my boy.
