I was reading yesterday that a search for the weirdest street name in the United States has revealed there is a road in Pennsylvania called Divorce Court and an alleyway in Michigan named Psycho Path.
Some other strange names that were found included Farfrompoopen Road in Tennessee, two streets in Georgia called Lonesome and Hardup that connect at a crossroads, and another street corner in Houston, Texas, where the roads are called Clinton and Fidelity. I’m a little concerned about Bucket of Blood Street and Shades of Death Road.
Have you seen any weird and wonderful street names or street signs? My favourite in Western Australia is one from the Mandurah area named Donkey Orchid Turn. How on earth do you tell someone that you live in a street with a name like that with a straight face?

Funny post! In a rural area outside Raleigh, NC you can drive along ‘Hilltop Needmore Road’. The road is very flat, but perhaps therein lies the need of more… 😉
I’ve always liked passing “Timely Hostess Mews” when driving along Neaves Rd off Joodalup Drive going to visit friends in Geraldton.
I think it has a nice ring to it, but I’m sure if you were giving the officer your details and said that, he’d think you were trying to get out of a ticket! 🙂
Cool Crusin’
Craggles.
On Norfolk Island there used to be a Dead Rat Lane. Unfortunately they changed it something far naicer. At least they still have Beefsteak Lane.
HYSTERICAL! I don’t think I could live on one of these streets! Around where I live all the streets are SO BORING.
The Donkey Orchid is a beautiful little Australian flower 🙂

AP’s Los Angles office made the error of placing Farfrompoopen Road in Tennessee rather than in Arkansas in reporting the story. Now if you Google Farfrompoopen Road, there about about 80,000 entries. I did not look at all of them, but a lot of them that I saw perpetuated the error.
If you look at Mitsubishi’s Web site, you will see that Farfrompoopen Road, which came in third, is in Story, Ark. On second thought, it’s too bad it did not come in No. 2.
hey… it’s not necessarily colourful, but it’s definitely descriptive – the uni I attend is on a mountain that is surrounded by hiking/mountain biking trails and forest, but the trail on the north (steep) side of the mountain is known as “Cardiac Hill” for obvious reasons.
Hi Rodney,
I was always left speechless by a street called “Little Boy Rise” in Endeavour Hills, Victoria. What a terrible name!
Cheers,
Thomas
there’s kickapoo trail and kickapoo road in yucca valley, california (that was always a bit entertaining to come across on our trips to joshua tree national park from san deigo when i lived there)
