Rodney's Recommendations

It’s Wednesday again and time to make mention of another of my regular reads.

Some people just pack far too much into life. Mark O’Brien of lowercase is one of them.

He is the Senior Pastor of Warnbro Community Church in Western Australia, has a wife, four kids and a large dog.

He says, “I’m not your normal pastor in the sense that I didn’t actually ever plan to be one. In fact, I can honestly say that it was the last thing in my mind, even when I was studying theology. I planned to teach, and that was my goal. God changed that along the way, and here I am.”

Mark was born in Zambia, grew up in what was Rhodesia, and did his high schooling in South Africa before his family moved to Australia.

He’s been a university tutor, a consulting mathematician within a university Geophysics Department, a part-time lecturer in the graduate Computer Science program at Curtin University, at which he earned a Bachelor of Applied Science degree in Mathematics and Computer Science, and much more. He has also worked in corporate I.T. so I guess you can say that he’s a bit of a geek.

If all of that wasn’t enough, he lived in the US while he earned a Master of Theology degree from Dallas Theological Seminary.

These days he speaks, teaches, coaches, consults and mentors in a variety of settings. The words over achiever immediately spring to mind and I haven’t even listed everything that he’s done.

As well as writing an entertaining and often thought provoking blog, Mark publishes his weekly messages from Warnbro Community Church as a Podcast. If you want to give his words of wisdom a try, click here. I’ve been listening for several weeks and there’s always something to think about in what he has to say.

If you do drop in to check out Mark’s blog, make sure you say hi from me.

While we’re on the subject of recommendations, if you keep a blog, how about a few posts on your blog about some of your favourites. You don’t have to put in a picture of the blog, just let us know which blogs you like and provide a link.

If you ever want to browse some of the other blogs I read each day through Bloglines, you can read your way through THE BLOG LIST in my right hand sidebar.
