A morning ride

I’ve mentioned my morning ride a couple of times recently so I thought I’d share a little of the journey.

I leave home around 6:30 a.m. and within a few minutes I head round the corner and I’m facing a paddock full of farm animals. Even though we live in the suburbs, the local high school runs a farming programme so at various times of the day we can be sitting at home and hear cows mooing. Very nice.

If the sun was in the right place I might have shown you some photos of the many vineyards I pass as I cycle through the Swan Valley. The Swan Valley is a very big wine growing area about 5 kilometres from our home. It’s also a great tourist area with all kinds of interesting places to visit including the state’s oldest church and a chocolate factory.

As I leave the Swan Valley I cross the Swan River on this bridge.

I took these photos early yesterday and the temperature was a little cool. You can see the mist rising off the river.

Very close to the bridge in Guildford is the St. Charles Seminary. I’m guessing that this is a statue of St. Charles. He watches me ride past each morning but never says hello.

If you want to see a little more detail on any of the photos, just click on them and you can see a larger version.

After passing through Guildford and the more industrial area of Midland, I enter Helena Valley. The cows were over the other side of the paddock yesterday morning. It’s a little dry at the moment so I’ll probably take a few more pictures after some rain when it’s greened up a little.

As I ride through this area I get some quite nice views of the Perth hills which you can see in the background.

So, any takers? Do you want to come ride with me tomorrow morning?

  • *raises hand enthusiastically*

I’ll go, I’ll go!!… except we would need to change the whole 6:30am thing to about 1:30pm.. and 50km to say, oh I don’t know, about 2 kms. Then I’d be set! 🙂

  • Love to ride with you, but in Connecticut at present. Off to Chicago (again) and then Milwaukee and on to Iowa.
Gotta get some practice in for the BAK.

  • Very nice. I remember seeing views like that out of the car window when I was going to school in the mornings.

I would come with except I’m with Kezza on the later and less distance thing. Oh yeah, and there is that I’ll be getting ready to drive to uni about that time when classes start up again.

  • amazing, you live on the other side of the country, yet your ride to work looks similar to mine – except – ahem – I ride in my car (does it help if it’s tiny and very fuel efficient!)
