Soggy days are here again

We’re getting into that time of year again. I woke up sometime during the night to hear the very welcome sound of rain pounding down on our roof. I went back to sleep with a smile on my face knowing that our garden was getting a good drink.

By the time I got up this morning the rain had stopped but there were still some very threatening clouds around. It made for a rather spectacular sunrise.

I decided it might be best to wear my rain jacket on my morning ride. In the end it didn’t rain so all the jacket did was make me a little warmer than I needed to be.

I don’t mind cycling in the rain. The only problem I find is trying to get my cycling clothes dry before I have to change into them at the end of the day to head home. I think I’ll have to hunt around for an old dryer or some kind of drying rack to bring into work within the next couple of weeks.

I don’t mind my clothes getting wet while I’m on my bike, after all it’s only water, but I’m not a big fan of having to put on wet clothes.

  • I don’t mind the water falling out of the sky when riding in the rain, it’s all the water off the road and the associated dirt mixed in with it that I don’t like. Takes me ages to clean the chain and running gear afterwards.

  • You could always rig up a make-shift clothes line in the old news room. Away from the leaks in the roof that is. 🙂

  • I could use two sets of clothes. It just means that I’d have to be able to transport some dry clothes to work each morning and take home the wet set each afternoon.

I’d prefer to be able to dry my clothes but it’s definitely worth considering.

  • You’ll just have to move to Queensland. Most days it’s so warm here that putting on wet clothes is actually a welcome relief. Most days the clothes do get wet, but that’s usually generated internally rather than externally. 🙂

  • I’m holidaying in NZ at the moment (we return to Perth tomorrow), & apart from 1 wet day, it’s been lovely weather. Looking forawrd to returning to some nice fresh rain when we get home.

  • Hey Chris, I know what you mean about generating wetness internally. The skies looked threatening this morning so I wore my rain jacket on the way to work.

34 kilometres later it still hadn’t rained but thanks to the rain jacket, I was soaked.
