I often talk about what’s coming up or what’s been happening on my radio programme on 98.5 Sonshine FM but I know that for most people, it’s almost impossible to listen in. Even though you can listen online via the 98.5 Sonshine FM website, the time is not always convenient.
That’s going to change, hopefully in the near future.
We’ve been talking about the idea of podcasting for a while now and we’re continuing to move towards getting something happening. I’d love to be able to share a lot of my interviews with you and give you the opportunity to hear my guests at a time that will suit you.
While 98.5 Sonshine FM runs music based programming most of the time, my morning programme (9:00 a.m. to midday, weekdays) is a little different. I conduct a number of on-air interviews as well as some talk-back radio with some of my regular guests.
My on-air week looks a little like this:
My regular Monday morning guest is Joan Grosser from Growing Families Australia. I chat to Joan just after 10:00 a.m. Perth time about parenting issues.
On Tuesdays it’s clinical psychologist Genevieve Milnes M.App.Psych, MA (Couns), B.Ed, B.Div from the Belmont Counselling Clinic. We chat about a range of issues from birth order issues to personalitiy types, depression, sexual abuse and a lot more. Our segment goes to air just after 10:00 a.m. Perth time.
My regular Wednesday morning guest is Ross Clifford, Principal of Morling College in New South Wales. Each week we discuss a range of issues relating to spirituality and belief just after 10:00 a.m. Perth time. Ross has a great ability to draw out the spiritual significance from a wide range of issues.
One of the new segments this year is Business Success with Glen Smyth. Glen sold out his share in a succesful business to follow his own business dream. After a lot of hard work his business came crashing down. Since then he has interviewed many of Australia’s most succesful business people. Just after 10:00 a.m. every Thursday morning we discuss the insights he has discovered on his journey. A lot of the subjects we touch on are practical skills for everyone, whether you’re in business or not.
On Friday mornings just after 10:00 a.m. Perth time we look at simplifying life with Life Skills Trainer, Jill Bonanno. We debunk the myth that we should always be trying to go bigger and better. Life really isn’t about accumulating ‘stuff’ or conforming to the dream lifestyle that TV and the glossy magazines try to sell us. We discuss how to go against the flow and simplify our schedules to achieve a better quality of life.
Just after 11:00 a.m. on Friday mornings I chat with Sports Journalist, Mic Cullen. Mic wraps up the week in sport, looking at a range of events from around the world, and then previews the coming weekend of sport.
I’m still keeping an eye out for a few extra bits and pieces. I even have a dog behaviour expert dropping in for a bit of talk-back once a month on a Thursday.
Very soon I should be able to share a number of these segments and many of my guest interviews via podcasts. I’ll let you know as soon as things are ready to go.
So tell me, is that something that will interest you? Do you think you’d subscribe to any of the podcasts to catch up with what’s happening in this corner of the world? I look forward to your comments and ideas.

Hi Rodney,
You know, I was reading one of your other posts yesterday about an interesting interview I missed and it made me think about Sonshine doing podcasts. In fact, I was going to ask you about it at some point. I’d definately be in favour of it, and I think there are many others who would benefit from being able to listen to some of the interviews, teaching etc at their own time. Definately good call as far as I see it. Keep up the good work.

Thanks Ellis. Always good to hear from you. 🙂
This would be great!
I’d find it very interesting… two thumbs up!
I always enjoy listening to your programms during the week while I’m working. I hear bits & pieces when I’m in & out of the truck. Having it podcasted would be interesting. Let us know how it goes.
We would love to help you out in this endeavor Rodney. We can host the recordings, give you a proper RSS, and even provide Sonshine with embeddable players. Let me know if I can throw anything your way…including a huge number of recording minutes.

Great to hear that several people think it’s a good idea. Thanks for your comments.
Drew, thank you so much for your invitation. I’ve passed on the details to our I.T. expert and I’ll get back to you soon.
Rodney –
After reading your post about podcasting, I realized that you must be on as I am reading your site at 10 pm. I am now listening to your show live.
I like it so far.
