Father's Day 2006

I notched up a decade of Father’s Days yesterday. Having two wonderful children makes Father’s Day a day worth celebrating.

The day was a busy one with the final of our 6 week Home Improvement series at church. I’ve been very much involved in the series. Each week I’ve introduced one of my 98.5 Sonshine FM morning programme guests. It’s been great. We’ve had fun and learnt a lot in the process.

After church we headed home where I prepared lunch. I then managed to grab a half hour nap. (I must be getting old.)

We headed out to catch up with Pauline’s parents to wish her dad a happy Father’s Day. Some other family joined us there and after eating too much for afternoon tea we all headed off to a local park to let the cousins play together.

There were a couple of moments at the park that stood out to me. I climbed a tree with James. Well, to be truthful, I started climbing and James thought it looked like a good idea so he joined me amongst the branches.

Soon afterwards I noticed Emily on her own. She was sitting on a bench on the other side of the park. I wandered over, sat down and put my arm around her. I asked if she was OK, if she was unhappy or just tired. She didn’t really know so we just sat for a while. We didn’t talk, we simply enjoyed each other’s company.

Emily and James gave me some lovely gifts for Father’s Day but the greatest gifts they gave me were the precious moments we shared.

  • Rodney! Love the new look of your blog. We used to be such faithful readers of each other and I feel bad that I have slacked off. So….I tagged you on my blog 🙂 Please don’t get mad!

I plan to start reading here daily again, I can see I’ve been missing out.

Great photo of you and James!

  • YOU ARE NOT GOING TO BELIEVE THIS…I tagged someone else then changed my mind and changed it to you and left you the above then I went back to the post (I added photos) and saw that you had commented….(Insert Twilight Zone music here). HOW WEIRD! Glad to see you stopped by, please stop by again.

  • Rodney! I love the new look. happy father’s day for sunday. SOmehow, I managed to read that you’ve been a father for 20 years….but I knew that wasn’t right (unless there’s something you’re not telling us!). But then I read it again, and understood my mistake.

I haven’t got my dad his present yet – and that’s a good thing, as it turns out that my brother and sister got him exactly what I was going to get him – the new bob dylan cd!

  • Thanks to your site my Dad got a belated Happy Father’s Day. It’s hard living abroad because it’s so easy to miss small holidays (well in terms of commercial value).

I too enjoyed spending time with my Dad, especially on Father’s Day. I think, like yourself, he just enjoyed a day where he could hang out with his two sons and have lots of fun.
