I had the real privilege of chatting to Tommy Emmanuel during my 98.5 Sonshine FM radio programme this morning. What an amazingly talented man.
Tommy’s friend and mentor Chet Atkins once called the Australian guitarist “One of the greatest players on the planet.”
He began playing at the age of 4 without any formal lessons and has spent over 45 years fine tuning his techinique. His dedication to his craft has enabled him to branch out into a wide variety of musical styles.
His latest album, The Mystery, has him on tour throughout the United States, New Zealand and even coming home to Australia. I played the title track to the new CD after the interview this morning. Brilliant. I’ve had a quick listen through most of the CD and it’s wonderful. I need to add a copy to my collection.
Tommy joined me on the phone from Kansas in the U.S. where he is currently playing. It was mid-morning for me but the middle of the night for him.
His tour will bring him to Perth on Tuesday the 10th of October where he’ll play at the Burswood Theatre. He’s bringing a few friends along for he’s calling TommyFest.
If you haven’t seen Tommy live, he’s constanly touring various parts of the world, so check out his website to see when he’ll be visiting your area.
During the interview Tommy mentioned that a lot of people are watching videos of him on YouTube. Some of the stuff that’s on-line there isn’t the greatest quality so check out a few of them to get a better idea of his immense talent.

Thanks for the ‘heads-up’ on Tommy Emmanuel’s concert. It will make the perfect birthday present for Craig.
On your (and Chet’s) recommendation I checked YouTube for T.E.’s videos and have to agree – he’s an incredible talent.
Re: your more recent post about how people found your blog – thru a link on seekingserenity/serenitydawn.blogspot.com
First time visitor. Located in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada (30 miles east of Toronto). Yes, I like what I’ve seen of your writing so far and will check in again.
I’m checking out Aussie blogs cuz I’ve always wanted to visit – this seems the next best way to get a feel for things ‘down under’. I’m also interested in doing a family search for “Calvert” but got bogged down on the white pages site. (distant cousins)
Later, Norm.
