School's out for summer

It’s a bit weird but I’m feeling quite excited today.

It’s the last day of school this year for Emily and James. They’ve got a couple of months of holiday adventures awaiting them.

All this week they’ve been winding down at school doing all kinds of fun things. Last night they both brought home very heavy school bags, full of all kinds of things they’ve used or created throughout the year.

I don’t know why I should get excited. I’m not about to begin any holidays. I suppose it’s got something to do with remembering that feeling from when I was their age.

Do you remember summer holidays when you were a kid? Do you remember the excitement of ending a year of school knowing that you’ve got weeks of fun ahead?

Here in Australia when we start our summer holidays Christmas is just around the corner and a new year is on the way. There’s something wondrous about this time of year. Once school is over it’s full steam ahead to Christmas and weeks of fun.

I must say that if I was given the choice I really wouldn’t want to live those years all over again but that doesn’t stop me from being thrilled that my kids are getting to experience it.
