Cyber Messiah

I’ve been trawling through some old radio interviews looking for a few more bits and pieces to put up online as part of 98.5 Sonshine FM’s Audio On Demand.

Back in July last year I spoke to Bruce Grant about a brand new venture called My Internet Church. It’s a website that’s trying to connect with people who, for whatever reason, find it difficult to connect with a regular, physical church.

You can hear our discussion using the media player below.

What are your thoughts about online church? Is it a relevant alternative for those who are unable to meet with others? Is it a suitable alternative for those who can meet with others but choose not to?

  • Hi Rodney,

It was great to hear that interview again, just thought you might like to know how we have been going.

Our church is now 2 years old and has recently reached 300 members, so to celebrate we are doing the cyberspace equivalent of moving into a “new building” with a major update of MyInternetChurch.com to be released very soon. Very exciting!

To answer your question we need to think about what it means to “meet with others”. For some it could be hard to imagine having a legitimate relationship based entirely on electronic communications but for an increasing number of people this is a real and fulfilling way of connecting with others.

I have a good friend that I met online whom I have never met in person. We talk about everything from personal problems to swapping favourite recipies. This is a relationship I would not have otherwise had except for internet communication.

MyInternetChurch.com is about giving people that same opportunity to have a relationship with God and with other people that they would not otherwise have.

Will let you know when we “move house” to our upgraded website 🙂

    God Bless
    Matt Stewart
