Happy Birthday Larry

It’s Larry Norman’s birthday today. I’ve been a fan for years so I shot off an email to him this morning.

I went to my first Larry Norman concert at the Perth Concert Hall when I was about 15. (Around 25 years ago.)

If you’re not familiar with his music …. you’re missing out.

He is generally known as the founder of Jesus Rock.

Larry’s been through some tough times over the years and his health is not good these days. You can find out more about that on his website.

  • ahh… another larry fan! The only time i have ver sung in church was larry’s ‘outlaw’ – acapella – to two different services! Was preaching on John 3 – seemed relevant…

  • One of my favourite moments was meeting Larry after his concert at the Superdrome (now Challenge Stadium) many years ago.

It must have been 1988 because it was a couple of weeks after breaking up with a girlfriend. She still came to the concert with me.

  • I always thought he was funny, and he started off Christian rock with what at the time was innovative and new, despite what it’s become.

I also appreciate the graciousness and interest he showed to my brother for creating and promoting a Larry bootleg called A Very Larry Christmas, but most of all he did a tribute show six years ago honor of my brother after he died 10 days before his planned wedding back. I wish I had been able to make it to that show. I never expected someone of Larry’s stature to do that sort of thing.
