What's that in your cabinet?

We’ve finally had a peek at Prime Minister John Howard’s new front bench. It’s pretty much the same as the old one but it has been tweaked here and there.

This article at news.com.au tells us: QUEENSLAND backbencher Peter Dutton and Nationals parliamentary secretary De-Anne Kelly had been promoted to the federal ministry, Prime Minister John Howard said today.

Mr Howard said that due to a Cabinet and ministry reshuffle earlier this year he had decided against big changes after the election.

“There has been no change to the personnel of the cabinet, although there have been some alterations in relation to particular departments affecting individual ministerial responsibilities,” he said.

The Labor front bench has yet to be announced.

Sounds to me as if it’s all a bit like a football match where the coaches look at their team and decide who to play where. They’ve got to look at the strengths and weaknesses in the team and decide who should play on who.

They need to decide who are the best taggers to look after the big name players on the other team.

It’ll be interesting to see who ends up opposing who in the various government and shadow portfolios.

  • that is exactly what it is Rod. The reason Latham hasn’t announced the positions of his team is because he wanted to see where Howard put his players first and pick the best match ups. So you are spot on with the footy analogy.

  • That is the problem. the media treats it that way. How can you have meaningful debate in 15 sec sound bits.
