Hot favourite goes cold

Going back a couple of months, how many people would have picked 16 year old Casey Donovan as the Australian Idol for 2004?

She doesn’t exactly have the teen starlet looks that you would expect from today’s pop princesses but she sure has a great voice.

It was great to see this talented young lady who goes against all the stereotypes win the competition over the very talented, hot favourite, Anthony Callea. Not that I would have minded seeing Anthony win; he’s got a great voice and I’m sure the marketing machine would have loved to be promoting him as Australian Idol.

If last year’s anything to go by, we’ll see albums being released from most of the top 12 finalists. I’ll be putting my money down for albums from Courtney Murphey and Chanel Cole when they’re released.

One curious thing about the big Sydney Opera House finale. For the second year running they brought back several of the contestants that were voted off weeks ago. For most of them, their performances only reinforce the reasoning in voting them out of the competition all that time ago.

  • Thanks a lot Rodney!
The show’s not even finished here and you give the result away.

Not that I really cared too much – I don’t like either of them particularly. The better contestants were voted out over the last few weeks.

Oh well, now I can do go and do something more productive with the next hour.

  • While I recognise that Casey has a great talent, her style isn’t really all that appealing to me.

I’m sure I’ll enjoy playing anything suitable she releases on the radio, but it’s not likely to e the kind of album I’d listen to at home.
