Talk about targetted marketing.
We received a letter today addressed to Olsen Residence ….. and then our address. (Which I’m not sharing here. )
Inside was an order form for a winery down at Margaret River in Western Australia’s south west region.
The letter on the flipside of the order form said: From one Olsen to another. The Olsen family of Margaret River, invite you, our namesake to taste the fruits of our labour with our premium range of Margaret River wines.
It went on to tell us a bit more about the hand crafted wines that are created in their boutique family winery.
So now I know that there truly is a bottle of red with my name on it.
I counted around 140 Olsens in the metro phone book. There are probably more in country WA. They may have even gone Australia wide. I suppose we all got the letter but it still seems pretty special.
Olsen Wines is currently offering: Cabernet Sauvignon 2002, Shiraz 2003, Merlot 2002, Chardonnay 2002 and Verdelho 2004. I wouldn’t mind trying the Merlot.
(By the way, in case you’re wondering, they didn’t offer us any free samples.)

Real shame about the lack of free samples!
That’s very special, I wish something… anything, was named after my family!!
Oh, and I’m sorry there weren’t any free samples 😉
That’s pretty clever marketing, I have to say! It would be even more clever with free samples, though.
I hate wine.
