A star is born

As part of the entertainment during last night’s Quiz Night, the MC asked for volunteers to sing You Are So Beautiful to a guy in a gorilla mask.

I was more than a little surprised to see a few people take on the challenge. I was especially surprised to see Emily head toward the front to give it a go.

The MC sang a little of the song as an example and the rest was up to the contestants. We weren’t at all sure that Emily had ever even heard the song before and so we were wondering what she would do when it came to her turn.

We were amazed when our 8 year old stepped up to the microphone to give the most tuneful rendition of the song for the evening. She has an amazing voice but she usually tries to immitate her favourite singers and ruins it all. Last night it was pure gold. (Yes, OK. Maybe I am biased. So What?)

The winner was judged by the applause of the crowd and Emily won it fair and square.

When she came back to the table I asked if she had ever heard the song before. She answered with a simple, “Sort of”.

Now all we need to do is find her a manager and an agent.

  • Glad that Emily did so well. Congrats!!

I also thought I’d remind you (while I was commenting), that I have changed hosts so the link in your side bar is no longer correct 🙂

  • Thanks Rachel.

Yes, I had changed the details to your new address but then I swapped my blogroll over to my bloglines list. I obviously haven’t updated that one.

  • awww… that’s so cute.
You know, hearing about Emily and James makes me think that perhaps kids aren’t all that bad after all. Which makes me less petrified at the thought that I might someday be a parent.
