Alone again …

I was at a meeting until late last night so I was able to put off the inevitable but eventually I had to go home to an empty house.

Pauline packed up the kids yesterday morning and headed off to Rottnest for a week with her parents. That means that I’m a bachelor for a few days. I’m fine looking after myself. I’ve lived alone before and I quite enjoy many aspects of being on my own but it still doesn’t feel quite right.

I miss hearing little voices as Emily and James play or even argue together. I missed having Pauline ask how the meeting went when I got home last night. I missed having the love of my life beside me as I drifted off to sleep.

I’ll head off to Rotto for the weekend so I’ll get to share a little of their holiday. I haven’t been there for a few years so I’m looking forward to relaxing and enjoying some great cycling as well.

Of course I wasn’t completely alone last night. Gizmo the cat gave me a very loud welcome when I walked through the door.

  • I understand how you feel Rodney, and I have only experienced this to a small degree. I often thought how nice it would be to have an evening free to myself without the children. But then when Samuel (3yrs) stayed with Nanny and Poppy over night I felt lost and didn’t know what to do with myself!
