There has been several mentions around the blogosphere recently about Hillsong Church’s annual conference at the Sydney Superdome. I know that it is drawing people from across Australia and overseas visitors as well. Not really my style but I wish them all the best.
It seems a lot of politicians are getting in on the act too. Federal ministers Alexander Downer, Kevin Andrews and Peter Dutton were there last night, and New South Wales Premier Bob Carr was one of several New South Wales state MPs at the conference.
We’re told that the 20 000 strong crowd reserved their strongest applause for Treasurer Peter Costello. Costello said he hoped they would find the strength of God in their lives because that would be the strength of the nation.
Earlier, Bob Carr told the crowd he enjoyed Hillsong’s style of spontaneous worship and praised the church for its modern approach to evangelism. He said the state government would maintain the right of churches to preach fearlessly.
Interesting to see the combining of ‘religion’ and politics, though I am wondering where Tony Abbott was last night. He has spoken several times in the past about his faith. I thought he might put in an appearance. Or maybe it would be too much of a scheduling problem for the evening programme if he had been there as well as the Treasurer.
If they had both Abbott and Costello they may have had a hard time deciding who’s on first.
Sorry. I just had to.

Good “pst” with a great bit of humour at the end. Being a baseball man I thought it was great. I guess if I read your previous posts I would know what denominational background you have but I sense that we may both be on the same page, at least a similar one.
Have a great day, down under!

I am glad to know that I am not the only one who makes up humorous “groaners”!
LOL, very good. They aren’t really my style either. Good joke though.
hehe it was funny…i repect ur comments about it…i actually attended the whole conference..not my style either but i thought why not…and to my surprise it was actually very good…i thought this is morally right.. i prefer to hang out there than at the pub, more intellectually stimulating and fun. And what a bunch of nice people. 29 000 people every night…i think they deserve a pat on the back for trying to have a positive influence in this world. Next year i suggest u attend some of the night meetings with an open mind because demonation has nothing to do with it, but the future generations and how they will influence our childrens children. have a great day 😀
Hi Sarah
I won’t be attending next year, mainly because it’s 4000km away. Though even if I was in Sydney I don’t think you’d find me there. It’s not about denomination either. In my previous job I visited and preached in all kinds of churches from very liturgical to charismatic and everything in between. I think there’s room for all kinds of expressions of Chritian faith. I’m just not big on huge gatherings like that.
I’m sure there’d be some good teaching and a great opportunity to catch up with other Christians but it’s just not me.
I’m so glad you enjoyed the conference and I hope that it helped to draw you closer to God.
