Talking 'bout a resolution

21 days in and how are your New Year’s Resolutions going?

Have you started getting in shape? Given up smoking? Changed jobs? Started some extra study? How will the 1st of January 2007 look different to the 1st of January 2006 for you?

I mentioned earlier this month that I was setting a resolution to read right through the Bible in one year. There’s probably not a lot of the Bible that I haven’t read over many years but I want to be able to get through the whole lot in 12 months.

So far I’m on target. One of the things that has helped me has been the Aussie Life Journal. Each day I read a big chunk of the Bible, according to the reading plan in the journal, then I note down the main one or two verses that jump out at me. The Aussie Life Journal helps me to take down a few notes about what I’ve read as well as an opportunity to write a few lines about its relevance to me.

In less than a month I’ve already read completely through Romans, Ephesians, Phillipians, Colossians, 1 & 2 Timothy, Titus, Philemon, Hebrews, Jude, James, 1& 2 Peter, a little of Psalms and currently I’m making my way through John. It’s quite an experience to read larger passages. It’s great for getting the bigger picture rather than deconstructing every verse word by word.

Whether you’re interested in reading for spiritual reasons or you just want to enjoy a good story, well told, it’s worth grabbing a copy of the world’s best selling book in a current English translation and spending some time getting to know what it’s all about. I’m currently using the New Living Translation.
