Have you got your bike out of the shed yet? Pumped up the tyres? Bikeweek officially begins in Perth tomorrow and I’m very much looking forward to celebrating all things related to cycling.
I’ll be kicking off Bikeweek by being part of the 98.5 Sonshine FM breakfast team broadcasting live from Supreme Court Gardens at the Bike to Work Breakfast. Everyone who cycles in will get a free, healthy breakfast. I’ve been many times before and it’s well and truly worth it. You don’t even have to contend with traffic. If you stick to the cycleways around the river you can make it to Supreme Court Gardens fairly easily.
The breakfast starts at 6:00 tomorrow morning and goes until around 8:30. We’ll be broadcasting live from the city until 9. After that I’ll be dashing back to our Morley studios to do my regular morning programme until midday.
Perth’s biggest annual breakfast is expected to draw around 3000 cyclists. The colourful event celebrates cycling as a healthy life choice and emphasises the benefits of cycling for all ages. The breakfast has become a favourite event for recreational through to elite cyclists.
Bikeweek is an initiative of the Department for Planning and Infrastructure and has been a popular fixture on the Western Australian recreational calendar since 1985. Cycle Instead Bikeweek 2006 comprises over 80 events throughout Western Australia.
As well as broadcasting live from the breakfast, 98.5 Sonshine FM will promote Bikeweek throughout the week, highlighting many of the associated events and giving away a bike a day from Monday to Friday next week.
I hope I’ll see you at the breakfast tomorrow morning. Make sure you come up and say hello.

Hey Rodney, I’d love to come to brekky with you tomorrow and cycle to work… but here in Iquitos… you do well to just cross the road!! On foot! There are all these motor taxis… motor bikes with room for 2 people behind…. so they become 3 wheelers!
So, accept my apologies for not joining you on Friday.
That would be a “very” long bike ride for me.
I wish I could have made it along to help out with the brekkie this morning but I caught up on some much needed sleep and am about to start working on some assignments for uni. Hope it all went well.
Hmmm, I see a bit of a theme happening here. I was like Jess, catching up on some much needed sleep, or atleast trying to. I did wake up at 4am and thought I would be a bit early if I left then, and drifted back to sleep, not waking until about 7:30am (actually more specifically being woken by my 18 month old daughter!)
It was a great event. We all had a wonderful time and now I’m back in our Morley studios embarking on another 3 hours of broadcasting. 🙂
I’ll post some pictures when I get home later today.
pfft, sleep is for the WEAK!! teeheehee, was great to see you Rods and it was such a lovely event! Hope you aren’t too tired now :S I mean, after all that riding you must have done *cough* 😉
I went. Yay for me!
But I didn’t see you Sounds crazy, but I couldn’t find you and I didn’t want to bother you while you where ‘working’ 🙂
I had a lovely time though, and I am looking forward to riding to & from work for the next week.
